WIN Time (Intervention Block)

Hi, I am returning to this blog that I created quite some time ago. As anyone that teaches in the classroom knows, there are never enough hours in the day! Hopefully I will be able to check on the blog more often as things settle down.

This year our school has implemented an intervention block in grades K-3. It is being piloted in one classroom per level in grades 4-6. I am a 2nd grade teacher.

For me, this is my 3rd year having a 30 minute block that is dedicated to meeting the needs of students based on benchmarking. This 30 minute block has evolved over the 3 years. I will focus this post on this year.

We have implemented 30 minutes of WIN (What I Need) Time that is outside of our 60 minute CORE time. We have grouped our students after benchmarking and leveling in Guiding Reading. Some teachers have implemented Centers to manage what is going on in their classrooms while interventions are being implemented. Currently we have 15 classroom teachers involved in the implementation. There are a couple of things that are occuring that I am looking for ideas to help smooth out!

We have a few teachers that we still need to "buy in" to the whole idea of RtI. They are not understanding why we are doing what we are doing. They feel like the management of the classroom during WIN time is not worth what they are getting out of it.

Also, I am looking at ways to get our Special Education involved. We have some cooperation, but not a whole lot of excitement of being part of the whole TEAM approach to meeting the needs of all students.

Any advice out there?
